Chick Peas also known as Garbanzo Beans or Channa, have a high protein content, but the black chick pea (a darker variety, more dark brown than black) is said to have even greater health benefits. According to FoodFactFile, “ Chick peas are a good source of dietary fiber, complex carbohydrate, protein, calcium, magnesium, iron and the B vitamin folic acid... ”
There are a number of ways chick peas can be eaten, including salads. For this recipe you may substitute the regular chick peas. You may also choose to buy the canned variety as it is a time saver. If you prefer to boil your own chick peas, the best and quickest method is to use pressure cooker. The other way is to soak it overnight and then boil until it is soft to the touch. Add salt while boiling. It is also very delicious just to snack on the boiled chick peas.
