Salsa Sambal

This sambal is very much like fresh salsa. I often make this when I prepare a Mexican dish and when preparing Indian rice dishes like biryani. If you prefer this salsa really spicy, just add more chilies.

This salad/sambal is also a popular accompaniment to barbecues. It's freshness helps to distill the rich foods of barbecues. Enjoy it with tortilla chips as well.


Ingredients

  • 2 ripe tomatoes
  • 1 finely sliced green chili
  • 2 tsps.lemon juice
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 3 stems of spring onion finely chopped (optional)
  • A dash of ground pepper
  • 1 tsp. crushed garlic
  • ¼ tsp. ground ginger
  • A dash of ground pepper
  • A few sprigs of coriander/cilantro leaves
  • a pinch of sugar
  • salt to taste

Method

  • Peel and chop onion into fine cubes
  • Finely slice chili and ginger
  • Chop tomato into fine cubes
  • Mix all ingredients and adjust pepper, salt and sugar

Salsa Sambal, made on different occasions, one by a friend. The recipe is a basic one which you can follow as is or add more or less of ingredients like onions, spring onions, & cilantro
